Jayapura- Assistant Operations (Asops) to the National Police Chief Inspector General Pol Verdianto I. Biticaca asked police officers in the region to deal with areas deemed prone to conflict when holding the 2024 regional elections, especially in the provinces of Papua, Mountainous Papua and Central Papua.
He revealed that Papua, Central Papua, and Mountain Papua are areas that are included in the potential for conflict.
For this reason, he hopes that members of the National Police who are Organic Personnel and Personnel who take part in or are carrying out assignments in Papua, Papua Mountains and Central Papua will be able to maintain security ahead of the Pilkada and during the Pilkada.
“I hope that colleagues in carrying out security in Papua will coordinate with the TNI and local security forces in order to maintain conduciveness to the 2024 regional elections,” said the Police Assistant Commissioner.
With good cooperation, Verdianto is confident that areas previously labeled as election-prone areas can hold regional elections smoothly and safely.
He conveyed to the Regional Police Chief and the Regional Police Chiefs that they could carry out various efforts to overcome conflict, such as socializing peaceful elections to tightening regional election security.
Specifically in the regions of Papua, Central Papua, Papua Mountains, there are 10 places that are considered vulnerable to holding the 20th regional elections, including, Kab. Deiyai, Membramo Raya, Sarmi, Nabire, Jayapura, Supiori, Yapen, Mimika, Puncak Jaya, Jayapura City.
And finally, the area considered dangerous or very vulnerable is the National Police Operations Area in Papua (Cartenz Peace Operation), namely Yahikumo, Nudga, Dogiyai, Bintang Mountains, Intan Jaya and Puncak Ilaga Regencies.
