Timika- The bodies of two residents who were victims of mutual attacks in Kenyam, Nduga Regency, namely Marianus Gery (63) and Abraham Runga (51), were successfully evacuated to Timika, Mimika Regency, Central Papua Province on Wednesday (3/7).
This evacuation was carried out by the Papua Regional Police (Polda) using a charter plane from Smart Cakrawala Aviation.
According to Police Commissioner Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, Head of Public Relations for the Papua Regional Police, the evacuation began at around 08.55 and finished at 10.43 WIT.
The evacuation process used two charter aircraft, namely Smart Cakrawala Aviation C-208B-EX/PK-SNW piloted by Captain M Irwan and Smart Cakrawala Aviation C-208B-EX/PK-SNA piloted by Captain Rizky.
“At 10.25 WIT, the plane carrying Marianus Gery’s body arrived at Mozes Kilangin Timika International Airport, followed by the plane carrying Abraham Runga’s body at 10.30 WIT,” said Mimika Police Chief, AKBP I Gede Putra.
Pol Kombes Benny explained that the conflict between the two mass groups started on Thursday (15/2), allegedly due to an agreement to distribute voting rights on the noken system for candidates for members of the Nduga Regency Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD). This tension reached its peak on Tuesday (2/7), causing casualties among residents.
After arriving in Timika, the bodies were buried at the respective family funeral homes at SP 1 and SP 2 Mimika. The plan is for the two bodies to be flown to their hometowns, Marianus Gery to Tanah Toraja and Abraham Runga to Alor, East Nusa Tenggara.
The evacuation process ran safely and smoothly without significant obstacles. The police continue to monitor the situation to ensure there is no further escalation of conflict in the area.
