Theo Hessegem: May 1 should not be used to disrupt social security and order

Papua- Papuan Human Rights (HAM) activist Theo Hessegem asked that May 1, which is often celebrated as Annexation Day, not be carried out excessively.

Moreover, Theo said, it could disrupt general conversation. “I am not prohibiting taking action, everyone has the right to explain in public according to the mandate of the law,” he explained.

He hopes that if the action to commemorate Annexation is carried out, it will proceed in an orderly manner. “My pressure is to maintain security for the benefit of many people, not because of actions or security that disrupt people’s activities,” he stressed.

Theo emphasized the basic principles that Papuans must uphold, namely charity, love and peace.

“The basis of the Papuan people is love, compassion and peace, so don’t destroy it by the actions of individuals in the interests of a group of people,” he stressed.

Apart from that, Theo asked the public not to be provoked by calls from certain groups to do things that could harm themselves and others.

“Everyone has an interest, don’t let your brothers become victims,” he stressed.
