Jayapura – Papua Police Chief, Inspector General Pol Mathius D. Fakhiri, gave his response regarding the security and public order (kamtibmas) situation in the Papua Police Legal Area on Friday (08/03).
He explained that although there had been several incidents in the last 4 days, such as what happened in Timika, Tolikara, Wamena and Yahukimo, the situation could still be controlled by the security forces.
“In particular, in Papua Province, especially in several new autonomous provinces, there have been no significant incidents, so we ensure that the overall situation is conducive,” he said.
During the plenary period of vote counting which was carried out in the last 2 days, the Regional Police Chief hoped that the process would run smoothly without any friction or events that could trigger riots.
“I emphasize that the election ended on February 14, so legislative candidates are expected to be able to monitor the vote results in an ethical manner,” he stressed.
He hopes that there will be no more conflicts or incidents that exceed what has happened before, and invites all parties to follow the applicable procedures in holding elections.
Inspector General of Police. Mathius also expressed his thanks to all legislative candidates and the public who still uphold ethics in this process. He emphasized the importance of cooperation between the police and the Military Commander to ensure security and order throughout the Papua region.
“As Papua Police Chief, I also emphasize that the democratic process has been completed, and if there are allegations of fraud, the public is encouraged to report it to the relevant institutions, such as Bawaslu or DKPP, without violating the law,” he concluded.
