Preventing Illegal Guns from Entering, Cendrawasih Military Commander Tightens Border Control

Jayapura – Commander of the Regional Military Command (Pangdam) XVII/Cenderawasih Major General TNI Izak Pangemanan stated that his party was tightening the border areas in Papua Province to cut off the illegal firearms network from the neighboring country of Papua New Guinea (PNG).

“We will continue to monitor border areas to prevent firearms entering Indonesian territory from Papua New Guinea,” said Izak Pangemanan, in Jayapura, Thursday (12/10).

Izak said that the TNI-Polri combination had succeeded in confiscating two long-barreled firearms from members of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) led by Ngalum Kupel in the Batom District area, Bintang Mountains Regency, Papua Province. The mountains came from Papua New Guinea.

“The two KKB members who were arrested were Yulian Uropmabin (36) and Kapol Uropmabin (42),” he said.

According to Izak, the task of border areas is not only the task of the TNI, but also the Polri to protect the front guard of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) from interference from groups with different ideologies.

“If there is firearms smuggling, of course we will arrest it to provide a sense of security for all Indonesian people,” he said.

The Military Commander explained that the movements of the KKB group which carried out unlawful acts were continuously monitored by the TNI-Polri.

“We continue to monitor all movements in the border area, both smuggling and other activities, so that if there are violations, action will be taken immediately,” he said.
