Jayapura – The Head of the Papua Regional Office of the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM), Frits Ramandey, expressed his support for the implementation of duties carried out by the Damai Cartenz Operation 2026 Task Force, emphasizing the importance of a humane, dialogical, and human rights–based approach.
Frits stated that the social situation in Papua is characterized by strong cultural values, therefore security measures must be accompanied by open communication and efforts to build public trust.
“A security approach must go hand in hand with a social approach. Intensive communication with traditional leaders, religious leaders, women leaders, and youth figures is essential so that every policy can be fully understood by the community,” he said.
He explained that effective communication is not merely about delivering messages, but about ensuring that those messages are truly understood and accepted by the public. When communities feel involved and heard, he continued, active participation in maintaining security and public order will naturally grow.
According to Frits, the principles of accountability and transparency must also be upheld in every field operation. With an approach that prioritizes dialogue and respect for human dignity, he expressed optimism that the security situation in Papua can remain conducive.
He further hopes that the implementation of Operation Damai Cartenz 2026 will not only focus on law enforcement, but also strengthen synergy between security forces and the community in order to support development and improve welfare in the Land of Papua.
“Sustainable security is built on trust. When the community and security forces move forward together, stability will become even stronger,” he concluded.
