Jakarta — Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian emphasized the importance of the President’s direct involvement in accelerating development across the Land of Papua. Such a role is considered crucial to ensure that development programs between the central government and the six provinces in Papua are aligned and mutually supportive.
Tito noted that inconsistencies between programs run by ministries and government institutions and the actual needs of regional governments still frequently occur. In many cases, these programs are not fully known to local leaders, including governors, regents, and mayors in Papua.
“Programs from ministries and institutions are often not well coordinated, and in some instances are not even fully known to regional leaders. This is an issue that we must address together,” Tito said in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The statement was delivered during the launch of the Papua Development Acceleration Action Plan (RAPPP) 2025–2029, held at the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas Office in Jakarta.
On that occasion, Tito highlighted three main tasks of the Executive Committee for the Acceleration of Papua’s Special Autonomy Development: synchronizing and harmonizing development programs, conducting oversight, and carrying out comprehensive evaluations. These functions, he said, are in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to ensure that Papua’s development acceleration is realized in a tangible and effective manner.
According to Tito, at the implementation stage, the Executive Committee must be capable of organizing and aligning all programs of central-level ministries and institutions so that they are truly compatible with the real needs of Papuan communities.
“With strong presidential leadership and solid coordination, we hope that development in Papua can proceed more rapidly, be more precisely targeted, and deliver direct benefits to the welfare of the people,” he concluded.
