Christmas and New Year Security: Central Papua Applies a Local Wisdom Approach

Nabire – The Central Papua Provincial Government has begun mapping safe zones for residents who will celebrate the joy of Christmas 2025 and the New Year 2026. An intensive cross-sector coordination meeting was held at the Nabire Guest House, Central Papua, to finalize regional security scenarios.

Acting Assistant I of the Central Papua Regional Secretariat, Jarius Agimbaw, stated that synergy among institutions is an absolute necessity, considering the sharp increase in public mobility that is predicted during the holiday period.

“We have issued specific instructions to security personnel to prioritize a humanistic approach in every action on the ground,” Jarius said while leading the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) coordination meeting.

Jarius emphasized that regional security stability would be more effective if strengthened through a local wisdom–based approach.

Therefore, this coordination aims to produce concrete measures to anticipate potential public security and order disturbances during the long holiday period.

“All sectors are expected to play their optimal roles to ensure that the community’s right to worship can be carried out without obstacles,” Jarius stressed.

He further explained that this forum serves as a platform to integrate the collective strength of the regional government with the ranks of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri).

“We hope the community will truly feel the presence of the state in providing safety and security throughout the celebration of major religious holidays,” he concluded.
