President Prabowo Convenes Papuan Regional Leaders to Accelerate Development

Jakarta — President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, convened Papuan regional leaders, community figures, and members of the Executive Committee for the Acceleration of Papua’s Special Autonomy Development at the State Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday (December 16, 2025). The meeting aimed to strengthen coordination between the central and regional governments in accelerating development across Papua.

Member of the Executive Committee for the Acceleration of Papua’s Special Autonomy Development, Ribka Haluk, said the meeting brought together six governors and 42 regents from across Papua. The Deputy Minister of Home Affairs explained that President Prabowo was scheduled to provide policy direction and engage in direct dialogue with regional leaders.

“There may be a brief dialogue between the President and the governors and regents to follow up on current developments. However, the main focus is to harmonize central government programs and policies in order to accelerate development,” Ribka said upon arriving at the State Palace complex.

Ribka added that the Executive Committee had recently launched the Papua Development Acceleration Master Plan (RIPP) in cooperation with the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas). The master plan is expected to serve as a comprehensive guideline for accelerating development in Papua.

Meanwhile, Papua Governor Mathius Fakhiri emphasized that Papua requires accelerated development in all sectors. He expressed hope that the meeting would enable the President to directly address the needs of the Papuan people.

“Hopefully, the President, who has a deep concern for the people of Papua, can respond to what we, the governors, have conveyed,” Fakhiri said.

President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to deliver strategic directions and concrete steps to all regional leaders, committee members, and Papuan figures regarding the acceleration of development in Papua during the meeting.

Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian stated that the President has a strong commitment to accelerating development in Papua in the near future. “Tomorrow at 3:00 p.m., the President will deliver his directives,” Tito said after a meeting with the Executive Committee for the Acceleration of Papua’s Special Autonomy Development and Papuan regional leaders at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday (December 15, 2025).

Tito added that the meeting with the President would be held at the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) office and would focus on aligning roles, strengthening coordination, and enhancing synergy among all stakeholders involved in accelerating development in Papua.
