In anticipation of the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 celebrations, the central government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining stable food supply and prices in Papua. On Tuesday (12/9), at the Papua Police Headquarters in Koya Koso, the Minister of Agriculture, the Head of the National Food Agency, the Deputy Chief of Police (Wakapolri), the President Director of Perum Bulog, and the Governor of Papua officially launched the distribution of rice from the Stabilization of Food Supply and Price (SPHP) program.
A total of 852 tons of rice, out of 4,634 tons to be distributed gradually from November to December 2025, are being delivered to six provinces in Papua Raya. The goal is to ensure the community’s needs are met with affordable prices during the holiday season.
Deputy Chief of Police (Wakapolri) Komjen Dedi Prasetyo emphasized that this initiative is part of the government’s and security forces’ efforts to maintain price stability and essential goods availability in Papua. He added that the police, together with other stakeholders, will continue to monitor and ensure access to food supplies, even in remote areas.
The Minister of Agriculture, Andi Amran Sulaiman, highlighted that Papua is a priority in the government’s food stabilization efforts. He described the SPHP as a tangible presence of the state, directly supporting the community’s purchasing power and ensuring the quality and stability of rice prices.
Meanwhile, Perum Bulog’s President Director, Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani, assured that logistics and transportation fleets are ready to support distribution across all regions in Papua, including hard-to-reach areas. It is expected that these efforts will help stabilize prices in traditional markets and retail outlets, allowing people to celebrate Christmas and New Year peacefully without concerns over rising staple food prices.
Papua Governor Matius D. Fakhiri expressed appreciation for the central government’s ongoing attention to food security in Papua and stated that regional authorities are prepared to support distribution efforts to ensure targeted delivery.
Additionally, Wakapolri announced plans to construct 10 new logistics warehouses in 2026 to strengthen the national food storage system.
Dedi also emphasized that food security is a collaboration among the central government, the military (TNI), the police (Polri), academia, and other stakeholders. He added that all distribution channels, including air and sea routes, are carefully prepared to ensure food supplies remain safe and steady, especially in the most remote and difficult-to-access areas.
The government’s main priority is to ensure that all Papua communities have sufficient access to food at affordable prices, in accordance with directives from national leadership.
