Paniai — As the commemoration of International Human Rights Day on 10 December 2025 approaches, the Head of Bibida District, Jairus Zonggonau, is calling on all residents to help maintain public order and ensure a safe and peaceful situation, especially as the community prepares to celebrate Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026.
Speaking on Saturday (6/12), Jairus emphasized that December holds a special meaning for Christians as a month filled with peace and sacredness. He urged all elements of society to use this moment to strengthen unity and focus on religious activities.
“December is known as a month of peace and holiness, as Christians prepare to celebrate Christmas and we all welcome the New Year. This is the right time to strengthen togetherness and maintain a harmonious atmosphere within our community,” Jairus said during an interview in Paniai.
Addressing concerns about the possibility of demonstrations on 10 December, Jairus acknowledged information regarding certain groups attempting to use the momentum, following incidents that occurred on 7 and 8 December in parts of Paniai.
“It is true that 10 December is Human Rights Day, and recent incidents could be used by some as a reason to stage a demonstration. However, we, as local leaders, will make every effort to ensure that no such action takes place on that date, as we have entered the sacred Christmas season, which must be respected by all,” he stressed.
He also urged the public not to be easily influenced by unverified information and to avoid actions that could harm themselves or others.
“We hope the community will not be provoked by issues that could disrupt the peace. Do not engage in actions that could cause harm to yourself or others. Let us stay focused on Christmas activities, as December is a sacred month for us Christians,” Jairus added.
Through this appeal, the Head of Bibida District hopes that all elements of society in Paniai Regency will work together to maintain stability and security, ensuring that the Christmas and New Year celebrations can take place safely, peacefully, and with joy.
