Indonesia Lays Groundwork for New High School in Papua, Emphasizing Community Involvement and Legal Clarity

NABIRE, Indonesia – In a key step toward improving educational infrastructure in its easternmost region, the Provincial Government of Central Papua has commenced a land verification and surveying project for the future development of Meepago Public High School.

The initiative, a collaboration between the local Education Office and the Land Agency, took place on Friday, November 28, 2025. Its primary goal is to formally establish the school’s land boundaries, ownership status, and overall site plan to facilitate the construction of new educational facilities.

A technical team, comprising surveyors, government officials, and local authorities, carried out the process. The work included verifying land coordinates, validating existing land maps, and conducting a thorough on-site inspection.

Crucially, the process was observed by representatives of customary land rights holders and community leaders to ensure transparency and adherence to procedures—a significant measure in a region where indigenous land rights are paramount.

A spokesperson for the Central Papua Education Office stated that this land survey is the critical first phase in a project to build new facilities for Meepago Public High School, with construction slated to begin in the 2026 fiscal year.

“We are ensuring that all construction is carried out on land with a clear and unambiguous legal status to prevent any potential future disputes,” the official explained.

Meanwhile, the Land Agency confirmed that the entire process complies with national land standards, covering everything from boundary identification and technical data collection to the official recording of results.

The findings from this survey will be processed to issue formal land documentation, which will serve as the legal foundation for the upcoming construction.

The project has been reported as running smoothly and has received full support from the local community.

The government expressed hope that this collaborative synergy between customary rights holders, local government, and technical agencies will continue, ensuring the successful development of Meepago Public High School and contributing to the broader enhancement of education quality in Central Papua.
