Amid National Spotlight, GERCIN’s National Coordination Meeting Amplifies Calls for Major Change in Papua

Jayapura — Papua Deputy Governor Aryoko Alberto Rumaropen officially opened the National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas) of the Gerakan Cinta Indonesia (GERCIN) at the Lukmen Hall, Papua Governor’s Office, Dok II Jayapura, on Friday (21/11). In his remarks, he urged civil society organizations to strengthen collaboration with the government to advance human resource development across Papua.

Deputy Governor Aryoko emphasized that the GERCIN Rakornas serves as an important momentum to reinforce national commitment, unity, and the active role of civil society in supporting a just and sustainable development agenda in Papua. He stated that this year’s theme, “Strengthening Unity and Driving Development Transformation Across the Six Provinces of Papua Toward a Golden Indonesia 2045,” aligns closely with ongoing national policies to accelerate growth in the region.

He noted that the establishment of six new provinces across Papua represents a strategic step to bring public services closer to communities, speed up development initiatives, and strengthen regional stability. However, he underscored that achieving meaningful transformation cannot rely solely on government action; it requires collective participation from citizens and community-based organizations.

Aryoko also highlighted the importance of ensuring that development benefits reach all Papuan communities—from coastal areas to the highlands. The broader reform agenda, he explained, includes defining organizational work direction, strengthening coordination among the DPR, MRP, and DPD of Papua, and formulating sustainable development recommendations. The Papua Provincial Government, he added, is pursuing the vision of a “New Papua”—a region that is advanced, harmonious, and founded on integrity—through improving human capital, accelerating infrastructure development, strengthening the local economy, and ensuring professional, accountable governance.

He further emphasized the need for unity, social stability, respect for local cultural values, and active engagement of all societal components in safeguarding peace across Papua. Aryoko expressed hope that the Rakornas would not merely produce organizational work plans but also generate constructive policy recommendations for both central and regional governments.

The event was attended by the Special Staff to the Minister of Defense for State Sovereignty, Dr. Lenis Kogoya; a representative from the Directorate General of Regional Autonomy at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Dr. Sumule; provincial leaders; and hundreds of GERCIN members from all six Papuan provinces.

In his address, Chairman of GERCIN’s National Leadership Council, Hendrik Yance Udam, stated that Indonesia—as a great nation—must be guided by individuals with genuine commitment and love for the country. He stressed the importance of instilling patriotism within Papua’s younger generation and expressed hope that the Rakornas would produce constructive political ideas to support the President’s broader vision.
