Jayapura — Governor of Papua, Mathius D. Fakhiri, ensured that the construction of the Jayapura-Wamena Trans Papua Road will be completed and fully paved by the end of 2026. This strategic project is believed to be the main driver of local economic growth as well as the increase in interregional connectivity in Papua.
In his statement in Jayapura, Thursday (11/13), Governor Fakhiri emphasized that the central government and local governments continue to pay special attention to the acceleration of the road infrastructure development.
“The development of Jayapura-Wamena road infrastructure is one of the main focuses of the central government in accelerating regional connectivity in Papua,” he said.
According to the Governor, the Jayapura-Wamena route is a transportation vein that connects the Central Mountains region with the northern coast of Papua. The presence of adequate roads is believed to facilitate the distribution of goods and community mobility, as well as open up new economic opportunities in various sectors.
He added, the completion of the road paving is a real proof of the government’s side towards the Papuan people.
“The completion of this road paving will be the biggest gift for residents, considering that so far land transportation is still very limited,” Mathius explained.
With the ongoing progress, the government is optimistic that Jayapura-Wamena land access will soon be able to be maximally utilized by the community, as well as strengthening the equal distribution of development to the inland Papua.
