BKKBN Papua Strengthens Family Planning and Reproductive Health Services in Special Regions

Biak Numfor, Papua — In an effort to expand access to family planning and reproductive health services in special regions, the Papua Provincial Office of the National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN) held a technical coordination meeting on strengthening commitment to Family Planning and Reproductive Health (KBKR) services in Biak Numfor Regency on Saturday (October 18, 2025).

The event was attended by Head of BKKBN Papua Representative Office, Charles Brabar, SE., M.Si, as part of the implementation of the Contraceptive Supply Reporting Information System (Sirka) program. The initiative aims to enhance the reporting system and ensure the availability of contraceptive supplies at all health service facilities in Papua.

“Through this activity, we aim to ensure that the contraceptive supply reporting system runs effectively and that family planning services in special regions become more optimal,” said Charles Brabar on Sunday (October 19, 2025).

Charles added that one of the regions with the lowest family planning service coverage is Waropen Regency, which has therefore been designated as a priority location for the national program.

In addition to strengthening family planning services, BKKBN is also collaborating with the Zero Dose Immunization program to ensure that every child in Papua receives complete basic immunizations from an early age.

“We are also providing training for community cadres to assist with immunization and premarital health screening, as immunization coverage in Papua—particularly among prospective brides and grooms—remains low,” he explained.

Charles emphasized that these efforts are in line with the national strategy to reduce stunting, as the stunting rate in Papua remains at 24.5 percent, higher than the national average of 19.6 percent.

“We aim to maintain the positive trend of stunting reduction, as seen in Biak Numfor, where the rate has dropped by around 16–18 percent between 2024 and 2025,” he noted.

To support family nutrition resilience, BKKBN Papua is also strengthening the implementation of the Genting Program (Foster Parent Movement to Prevent Stunting) and the National Nutritious Meal Program (MPG), targeting pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers. These programs are carried out through SPPG (Nutritious Food Distribution Units) kitchens, which provide nutritious meals twice a week—every Monday and Thursday.

“We hope Biak Numfor can serve as a model for other regions in reducing stunting and strengthening family nutrition. This program is part of President Prabowo Subianto’s priority agenda to enhance national nutritional resilience toward Golden Indonesia 2045,” Charles concluded.
