Central Papua – The Deputy Chairperson III of the Jayapura City Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRK), Nelson Yohosua Ondi, has declared his readiness to “stand firm” against Sebby Sambom, spokesperson of the TPNPB-OPM, whom he accuses of repeatedly issuing provocative statements that cause public unrest.
According to Nelson, Sebby’s remarks — including threats to shoot workers involved in the Trans-Nabire road project — could hinder development efforts in Papua.
“Such statements disrupt infrastructure programs that are the backbone of Papua’s economy,” Nelson said in a statement in Jayapura, Papua, on Wednesday (October 15, 2025).
Despite differences in administrative regions, Nelson emphasized that DPRK representatives under the Special Autonomy (Otsus) scheme form a unified body representing the seven customary regions of Papua. He urged all Otsus legislators at both provincial and district levels to actively safeguard ongoing development and ensure the safety of workers.
“Otsus representatives must be able to communicate with all parties to view development rationally. Infrastructure is built for the prosperity of Papuans,” he asserted.
Nelson also revealed plans to establish the Association of Special Autonomy DPRKs across the Greater Papua Region, through which his group will send an official letter to the Embassy of Papua New Guinea (PNG) in Jakarta, urging the PNG government to take legal action against Sebby Sambom.
“We will ask PNG to take a firm stance. If necessary, arrest and deport Sebby so he can be processed under Indonesian law,” Nelson stated.
He further stressed that the good relationship between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea must not be disrupted by provocative narratives.
Nelson also called on Sebby to stop seeking publicity in the name of the Papuan people.
“Whenever an incident occurs, he claims it as an OPM action — but denies responsibility in other cases,” Nelson remarked.
Concluding his statement, Nelson urged all parties to protect Papua from provocation while reaffirming his commitment to supporting Indonesia’s sovereignty and national security.
“All Otsus representatives must uphold President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita vision,” he said.
Nelson added that he is also ready to challenge Pacific governors who spread negative stereotypes or false claims about Indonesia’s policies in Papua.
