Yahukimo, Papua Mountains — A tense night unfolded at the grounds of GIDI Siloam Church, Jalan Poros Logpon Kilometer 4, Dekai District, when a man named Bahar bin Saleh (55) died after sustaining serious stab wounds from an attacker suspected to be a member of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB).
Head of the Damai Cartenz Operations, Brigadier General Pol Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, explained that the victim, a driver from Bugis/Makassar, was suddenly attacked by an unidentified individual upon arriving at the church premises.
“The victim was attacked suddenly from the direction of the entrance road. Although he tried to run into the church area, the perpetrator continued to pursue and repeatedly stabbed him until he collapsed,” Brigadier General Faizal stated.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the local tribal chief attempted to stop the attacker by shouting, “Stop, I am the tribal chief!” but his plea was ignored.
The victim was immediately rushed to RSUD Dekai, but he could not be saved due to severe stab wounds to his abdomen, chest, and head.
Shortly after the incident, joint teams from Ops Damai Cartenz and the Yahukimo Police arrived at the scene to conduct a chase and secure the surrounding area.
According to the Deputy Head of Ops Damai Cartenz, Kombes Pol Adarma Sinaga, initial investigation results suggest that the attacker is believed to be a member of the KKB from Kodap XVI Yahukimo, who has been active in the area around Jalan Poros Logpon KM 4.
This incident has also raised concerns because the victim was involved in preparations for the church inauguration scheduled for today. Unfortunately, due to this tragedy, the inauguration event has been postponed.
The police emphasized that the violence carried out by the KKB demonstrates their brutality, as they continue to spread terror across various sectors, including places of worship and public facilities.
