Jayapura – The Chairman of the Maluku Family Association (IKEMAL) in Papua, L. Christian Sohilait, S.T., M.Si., has called on all Papuans to unite and extend full support to Papua’s newly inaugurated Governor and Deputy Governor, Matius D. Fakhiri and Aryoko Rumaropen, who officially began their 2025–2030 term in office this week.
Christian congratulated the new leaders, describing their inauguration as a significant milestone and the beginning of a new chapter in Papua’s development after a long and dynamic political process. He emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration among all communities to achieve peace and prosperity across the province.
“As Chairman of IKEMAL, I would like to convey three important points. First, I call on all Maluku residents and the people of Papua to give their full support to the newly elected Governor and Deputy Governor,” Christian told reporters after attending the handover ceremony at the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), Jakarta, on Wednesday (October 8, 2025).
He urged everyone to move past the political differences of the recent election period. “The election and inauguration are over. Now is the time to work and build. We must no longer be divided by narratives that cause conflict but instead create messages that unite, inspire, and rebuild,” he said.
Christian also highlighted the importance of fulfilling the campaign promises made by the new, leadership, expressing hope that their administration would translate those commitments into real programs that directly benefit the people.
“Many promises have been made; now is the time to deliver on them for the welfare of the Papuan people,” he affirmed.
He further stated that IKEMAL, together with the community, would continue to monitor the government’s performance and provide constructive feedback to ensure that all policies and development programs are implemented effectively.
“Let us support and stand behind this new leadership so that Papua can truly become a peaceful, progressive, and prosperous home for all its people,” he concluded. (VN)
