Intan Jaya, Central Papua – An armed criminal group (KKB) once again carried out a brutal armed attack that claimed the life of a road construction worker in Intan Jaya Regency, Central Papua, on Wednesday (October 8, 2025). The victim, identified as Anselmus Arfin (25), was an employee of PT TJP who was conducting road measurements in Ndugusiga Village at the time of the incident.
The shooting occurred at around 10:20 a.m. local time when the victim and four of his colleagues were using a tractor to survey the road area near the border of Ndugusiga and Bambu Kuning Villages. Suddenly, a gunshot was heard from the left side of the road, hitting the victim in the left chest and exiting through his back.
The victim’s colleague, Muhammad Rasyid, along with other workers, immediately evacuated him to Sugapa Regional General Hospital (RSUD Sugapa) in Intan Jaya. Unfortunately, the victim was pronounced dead upon arrival due to the fatal gunshot wound.
In response, personnel from Operation Peace Cartenz (Ops Damai Cartenz), led by AKP Ojan Prabowo, S.Tr.K., S.I.K., launched a pursuit operation in coordination with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI). Other officers were deployed to monitor the situation at Sugapa Hospital and coordinate with the company involved.
Preliminary reports indicate that the shooting was carried out by a KKB faction led by Daniel Aibon Kogoya, a group known for its repeated acts of violence and disruption in the Intan Jaya area.
The Head of Operation Peace Cartenz, Brigadier General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., strongly condemned the attack, emphasizing that such violent acts by KKB hinder crucial infrastructure development projects in Papua, including road construction.
“This armed criminal act not only took the life of a civilian who was contributing to his region’s development but also obstructs the government’s efforts to accelerate infrastructure progress in Papua. The state will not back down in ensuring security and the continuity of development in this region,” Brig. Gen. Faizal Ramadhani asserted.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Head of Operation Peace Cartenz, Police Commissioner Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., stated that security measures have been heightened in the vicinity of the incident, and law enforcement efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators.
“We have deployed personnel to several vulnerable points and strengthened patrols to prevent similar incidents. Our team is also conducting an investigation to identify the group members and their supporting network,” said Comm. Adarma Sinaga.
Operation Peace Cartenz reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining security and taking firm action against armed groups that threaten stability and disrupt development across Papua.
