Paniai, Central Papua – The Stone Burning tradition colored the celebration of the 29th Anniversary of Paniai Regency held in Madi Village on Friday (October 3, 2025). The event, which started at 3:00 PM WIT, was lively with the participation of thousands of residents and full support from security personnel from the Paniai Police Department and Peace of Cartenz.
Head of Peace of Cartenz, Brigadier General Pol. Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., stated that security arrangements had been prepared from the start to ensure that the series of activities ran safely and smoothly. Nevertheless, the atmosphere remained warm because the officers were not only tasked with maintaining security but also actively engaged with the community in the traditional ceremony. Personnel were seen communicating actively, helping, and sharing food from the Bakar Batu tradition with the people.
“The involvement of officers in this event is a form of support for the preservation of culture as well as an effort to strengthen relationships with the community,” said Brig. Gen. Dr. Faizal Ramadhani.
Vice Head of Peace of Cartenz, Kombes Pol. Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., in his statement, mentioned that security personnel were present not only to secure the event but also to share in the togetherness of the Bakar Batu tradition. This moment is a people’s festival, and we want the community to feel comfortable and happy.
“The Bakar Batu tradition holds significant value for the Papuan community. It is not just a cultural festival but also a manifestation of gratitude for the journey of Paniai Regency over the past 29 years. May this tradition continue to live on and serve as a unifying force for the community,” said Kombes Pol Adarma Sinaga.
The event concluded with a communal meal among residents, security personnel, and local government officials. The joy and warmth radiated from the atmosphere, reaffirming that Bakar Batu is not just a tradition but also a social glue that maintains harmony in Papua land.
