Daryono, the Director of Earthquakes and Tsunami at BMKG, stated that the earthquake in Waropen was of a shallow type, based on the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter.
“A shallow earthquake caused by active fault activity on land. The magnitude 5.7 earthquake’s epicenter was located 66 km southwest of Waropen,” Daryono said in a press release on Friday (October 3, 2025).
He explained that the earthquake had a depth of 43 km. The epicenter was at coordinates 2.98° South Latitude and 136.34° East Longitude.
