Papua’s Integrated Community School Officially Begins Operation

Jayapura – The Integrated Community School 75 Phase 1C, located at the Industrial Training Center (BLKI) Papua in Jayapura City, officially began its academic activities on Tuesday (September 30, 2025). The opening was marked by the Orientation Program (MPLS) and free health check-ups for new students.

The inauguration was led by Papua’s Assistant Regional Secretary I, Yohanes Walilo, who emphasized that the establishment of the school aligns with the national policy to reduce extreme poverty by providing access to primary and secondary education.

“This program is part of a national initiative. Specifically in Papua Province, the primary and junior high school levels are temporarily centered here at BLK. Existing facilities will be used while waiting for the ministry to build permanent schools,” said Yohanes.

He further explained that health screenings are essential, as many of the students come from remote villages. According to him, children’s health conditions must be ensured before they begin living in dormitories.

“We cannot risk undetected illnesses becoming an issue once learning starts. That’s why before classes begin, we must confirm that the children are healthy,” he added.

Head of Integrated Community School 75, Abigael Kalami, stated that the school applies an integrated system under a single leadership, covering both primary and junior high levels.

“There are 50 primary school students and 50 junior high students, with each class consisting of 25 learners. The students come from various regencies and cities across Papua, including Jayapura City,” Abigael explained.

She added that the orientation program will run for two weeks, covering several activities. Besides health checks, students will take part in self-introduction sessions and basic marching drills.

“These orientation activities are scheduled by the Ministry of Social Affairs, and we only adjust them to local conditions in the school,” she said.

Despite its official start, Abigael acknowledged that the Integrated Community School still faces a shortage of teaching staff. She expressed hope for government support in fulfilling the number of teachers required to match the existing classes.
