Jayapura – A fire hit the Pembawa Terang Orphanage located on Hanurata Street, near Anugerah Holtekamp Housing, Jayapura City, on Saturday. Even though the fire had grown, all the children in the orphanage were evacuated safely. There were no casualties in the incident.
Security officers and local residents moved quickly to help the evacuation process, while the police also ensured security at the scene. All the children of the orphanage were then evacuated to the Papua Regional Police for temporary post-fire treatment.
The police are now working together with the Jayapura City Social Service to coordinate the relocation of the children. Coordination is also carried out with various related parties to ensure the fulfillment of basic needs, including temporary shelter, food, and psychosocial assistance.
The Papua Police Chief expressed his appreciation for the quick cooperation of the community, officers, and related parties that made all the children of the orphanage able to be saved. He emphasized that his party together with the local government will continue to supervise the fulfillment of the children’s rights until the condition returns to normal.
The government also urges the public to remain alert to potential fires by ensuring that electrical installations and household appliances are in safe condition. Solidarity between citizens is considered very important to maintain a sense of security, especially for children who need protection.
With the support of all parties, the children of the Pambawa Terang Orphanage are now in a safe state under the supervision of the authorities and social services, while waiting for further handling regarding the permanent residence after this disaster.
