Papua Central Police Chief Attends Senator Peduli Ketahanan Pangan Event in Mimika

Mimika – Mimika Police, together with the military, local government, and community members, carried out monitoring and security for the Senator Peduli Ketahanan Pangan (Senators Care for Food Security) program, led directly by the Deputy Speaker of the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI), Mr. Yorry Raweyai. The event took place on Kampung Naena Muktipura Street, SP6, Iwaka District, Mimika Regency, and was attended by around 300 guests on Saturday (September 27, 2025).

The event was graced by several important figures, including Central Papua Police Chief Brig. Gen. Alferd Papare, Central Papua Deputy Governor Deinas Geley, Mimika Regent Yohanes Rettob, military and police officials, representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, members of the Regional Legislative Council (DPRD), the Papuan People’s Assembly (MRP) of Central Papua, as well as farmer groups and local residents.

The series of activities began with a security roll call led by Kuala Kencana Police Chief, AKP Djemi Reinhard, followed by the welcoming of the DPD RI Deputy Speaker’s entourage. The event commenced with the singing of the national anthem Indonesia Raya, followed by traditional dances from the Kamoro and Amungme tribes, an opening prayer, and speeches delivered by the Mimika Regent, Central Papua Deputy Governor, a representative from the Ministry of Agriculture, and finally, the Deputy Speaker of the DPD RI.

In his remarks, the Deputy Governor of Central Papua emphasized the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders to achieve food self-sufficiency. Meanwhile, Head of BPPSDMP at the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Idha Widhi Arsanti, reaffirmed the central government’s strong support for the national hybrid corn self-sufficiency program. Deputy Speaker of the DPD RI, Yorry Raweyai, underlined that this initiative is part of a national strategic program on food security in support of Indonesia’s Vision 2045.

As a symbolic gesture to mark the launch of the program, traditional drums (tifa) were struck by DPD RI leaders together with local officials, followed by the handover of farming equipment and hybrid corn seeds to farmer groups, as well as symbolic corn planting by officials and the community.

Mimika Police Chief, AKBP Billy H. Budiman, S.I.K., M.H., stated that the event proceeded smoothly and securely, supported by joint security forces from Mimika Police, Kuala Kencana Police, Brimob Battalion B Pelopor, Kodim 1710 Mimika, along with other military and police personnel.
The Senator Peduli Ketahanan Pangan program is expected to strengthen food independence in Central Papua, support the government’s Asta Cita 2025–2029 agenda, and improve the welfare of farmers in Mimika Regency.
