Jayapura – Papua Police Chief, Inspector General Patrige Renwarin, reported improvements in the condition of children injured during the riot in Elelim, Yalimo Regency, Papua Highlands. He explained that most of the victims receiving treatment at Bhayangkara Hospital in Jayapura are showing significant recovery.
According to police data, out of ten victims who were hospitalized, six have been discharged as their condition has stabilized. Meanwhile, four others remain under intensive medical care, including an 8-year-old girl named Ativah, who underwent surgery and is currently in the ICU but in stable condition.
“Puji syukur kondisi mereka makin baik. Kami berharap semua korban bisa segera pulih dan kembali ke keluarga,” said the Papua Police Chief in Jayapura.
In addition to medical treatment, trauma healing sessions are also being provided, particularly for children, to support their psychological recovery following the incident.
The riot in Yalimo initially stemmed from a student brawl that escalated into mass unrest, resulting in the burning of public facilities and multiple injuries.
The Papua Police Chief called on the community to maintain order, avoid provocation, and support the victims so they can recover both physically and mentally.
