Jayapura, September 20 – Retired Police General Matius Fakhiri has expressed his firm commitment to strengthening unity across Papua following his official designation as the province’s governor for the 2025-2030 period. The statement was made after the formal announcement of the elected gubernatorial pair in Jayapura on Saturday night.
In a brief interview, Fakhiri emphasized that his top priority is to develop a Papua that is progressive and harmonious, with community welfare at the core of development efforts. He underscored that there is no room for division and called on all elements of society to unite for collective progress.
As a concrete step, Fakhiri revealed plans to meet with other candidates, Benhur Tommy Mano and Constant Karma, to invite them to collaborate in building a better Papua. He also urged his supporters to adopt an open attitude and embrace all parties, fostering an environment of peace and unity.
Accompanied by his deputy Aryoko Rumaropen, the elected governor reiterated his dedication to making Papua a model for other regions in Indonesia in terms of sustainable development and diversity. He called on the community to leave behind political differences and focus on constructive efforts to advance Papua.
Fakhiri also stressed the importance of respecting everyone’s rights and cultivating mutual appreciation. He believes that only through unity and inclusivity can Papua realize its full potential, creating a just, prosperous, and culturally rich society.
He affirmed that the success of Papua’s development depends on active participation from all layers of society and the ongoing spirit of togetherness.
