Matius-Aryoko Officially Declared Elected Governor and Deputy Governor of Papua

Jakarta, September 20 – The pair of Matius Fakhiri and Aryoko Alberto Ferdinand Rumaropen has been officially declared the elected Governor and Deputy Governor of Papua by the Papua General Election Commission (KPU) following an open plenary meeting. The decision came after the Constitutional Court (MK) rejected a lawsuit challenging the rerun voting results for the Papua gubernatorial election, filed by candidate pair Benhur Tomi Mano and Constant Karma, on Wednesday (September 17).

During the plenary session, KPU Papua Chairperson Diana Simbiak announced that the Benhur-Constant pair received 255,683 votes, while Matius-Aryoko secured 259,817 votes. This gave Matius-Aryoko 50.4 percent of the valid votes, officially making them the winners of the 2025-2030 Papua gubernatorial election.

The official decree was signed by four commissioners: Diana Simbiak, Fajar Kambon, Abdul Hadi, and Amijaya Halim. Following the signing, the document was handed over to the Papua Governor, the Papua People’s Assembly (MRP), the Papua Regional House of Representatives (DPR), and the supporting political parties.

After the announcement, Matius expressed his commitment to uniting all groups to develop Papua, including reaching out to his political rivals, Benhur-Tomi Mano and Constant Karma. “I will meet with Benhur-Constant to invite them to work together in building Papua,” he said in Jayapura on Saturday night, as quoted by Antara.
