Jayapura – Deputy Mayor of Jayapura, Rustan Saru, conducted a direct visit (blusukan) to several residents in South Jayapura District, Jayapura City, Papua, on Friday afternoon, September 12, 2025. During the visit, Rustan distributed basic food supplies to vulnerable community groups, including the elderly, orphans, informal workers, and residents living in inadequate housing.
Rustan explained that the assistance was not funded by the local government budget, but came from his personal monthly salary. He emphasized that this initiative is a form of personal concern and a moral responsibility as a public official who must be present among the people.
“This aid comes from my own monthly salary, and today I am delivering it directly to the residents. I decided to carry out this visit after receiving a number of concerns and requests through my social media accounts, as well as from news reports I read in the media. I wanted to see their conditions firsthand,” Rustan said.
He added that such activities would continue regularly as part of the city government’s commitment to listening to public aspirations through all available channels, including social media. Rustan hopes the assistance can ease the residents’ burden and inspire others to show solidarity and compassion for those in need.
