FKDM Urges Mimika Residents to Maintain Peace, Warns Against Violent Protests

Mimika, Koran Papua – The Forum for Community Early Awareness (FKDM) of Mimika Regency has called on all elements of society to safeguard peace and stability amid ongoing national dynamics. FKDM Mimika Chairman Luky Mahakena, S.Sos., M.Si, stressed that Mimika is a shared home that must be preserved as a safe and harmonious place.

The appeal came following a wave of demonstrations staged by the Cipayung Plus student alliance in Jayapura. During the rallies, students voiced various aspirations and criticisms of government policies.

According to Mahakena, the right to express opinions in public is guaranteed under the constitution. However, he reminded the public that such aspirations should be conveyed peacefully and without resorting to anarchic actions that could harm the community.

“Mimika is our home. It is our duty to maintain security and public order together. Express your opinions, but do not damage facilities or spark unrest,” Mahakena said in Timika on Monday (September 1, 2025).

He further underlined that regional stability is a key requirement for driving economic growth and improving public welfare. For this reason, FKDM urged local government, security forces, religious leaders, and community organizations to work hand in hand in keeping the situation safe and conducive.

FKDM emphasized that social calm will serve as a vital asset for Mimika as it faces future development challenges.
