Cartenz Peace Task Force Hands Over Two Suspects in Homemade Firearms Case to Jayawijaya Prosecutor’s Office

Wamena, Highland Papua – The Cartenz Peace Task Force, in collaboration with investigators from Jayawijaya Police, officially handed over two suspects and evidence (Stage II) in an illegal possession case involving homemade firearms and explosives to the Public Prosecutor at the Jayawijaya District Attorney’s Office on Wednesday (September 3, 2025) at 11:02 a.m. local time.

The two suspects handed over were identified as Yusuf Makulita and Sapto Edi Patria Gren, also known as Edi Tulehu. Both have been charged under Article 1 paragraph (1) of Emergency Law No. 12 of 1948 concerning possession of firearms and explosives without legal authorization.

The evidence submitted included:

  • 1 black Polo-brand suitcase
  • 2 homemade long-barrel firearms
  • 1 noken AS motor bag
  • 1 Surya cigarette tin
  • 1 SS1 magazine containing 29 rounds of 5.56 mm live ammunition
  • 10 iron arrows with yellow raffia markers
  • 4 iron rings
  • 2 small iron pipes
  • 1 short silver-colored iron pipe
  • 1 homemade bomb
  • 4 rounds of 5.56 mm live ammunition
  • 2 rounds of .38 SPC live ammunition

The process was carried out in stages. At 11:02 a.m., the investigation team moved from Jayawijaya Police Headquarters to the District Attorney’s Office. At 1:00 p.m., the suspects and evidence were formally handed over to Public Prosecutor Nadhar Ariwijaya Narsullah, S.H..

The entire procedure was completed by 3:55 p.m., after which the suspects were returned to Jayawijaya Police Detention Center under the custody of the Public Prosecutor.

Head of the Cartenz Peace Operation, Police Brigadier General Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., stressed that this enforcement reflects the authorities’ firm stance against illegal firearms and explosives.

“The possession of firearms and explosives without authorization poses a serious threat to public safety. The handover of suspects and evidence to the prosecutor is an essential step in ensuring that the legal process proceeds transparently and professionally,” he stated.

Echoing this, Deputy Head of the Cartenz Peace Operation, Police Commissioner Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., highlighted the importance of cross-agency coordination.

“Through synergy between the police and prosecutors, we can ensure this case is resolved in accordance with the law. Most importantly, the process is carried out safely, orderly, and under control,” he affirmed.

This handover underscores the authorities’ commitment to upholding the law and safeguarding public security in Papua. The Cartenz Peace Task Force reiterated that no tolerance will be given to anyone attempting to possess or use illegal firearms and explosives, in order to maintain peace and stability across the region.
