Jayapura, Papua – September 2, 2025 – Acting Governor of Papua, Agus Fatoni, has urged all elements of society to strengthen collaboration in maintaining security and peace across the Land of Cenderawasih. His call came following demonstrations earlier this week that proceeded in an orderly and peaceful manner.
Fatoni emphasized that the current stable situation in Papua is the result of close cooperation between local government, security forces, traditional leaders, religious figures, youth, students, and the wider community. He underlined that security and stability are crucial foundations for sustainable development as well as the continuity of economic and social activities.
“Security is not solely the responsibility of the government but a shared duty. With peace in place, people can work calmly, run their businesses without disruption, and allow development to move forward,” Fatoni said in Jayapura on Tuesday (Sept 2).
To reinforce this commitment, the Papua Provincial Government, together with the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), the Papuan People’s Assembly (MRP), and community leaders, recently held a special meeting. The forum resulted in a joint call urging dialogue, rejection of provocation, and avoidance of misinformation that could potentially undermine unity.
Fatoni added that Papua must be able to demonstrate to the world that peace and harmony can be preserved through solidarity. “By standing together, we can create a safe, peaceful, and prosperous Papua,” he concluded.
