Timika — Mimika Regent, Johannes Rettob, has called on all residents to stay united and vigilant against provocations that could trigger conflict in the region. He delivered this message during the Coordination Meeting of the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda) with religious leaders, women’s representatives, youth leaders, and community organizations at Cendrawasih 66 Hotel Timika on Tuesday (September 2, 2025).
Regent Rettob stressed that the recent acts of anarchy in Jakarta and West Papua (Sorong and Manokwari) must serve as a lesson so that Mimika does not get dragged into similar unrest.
“I urge everyone to act wisely so that Mimika remains peaceful. No divisions, no turmoil, no provocateurs must be allowed to break us apart,” he asserted.
He further emphasized that public aspirations can still be expressed, but must be done in a safe and orderly manner without damaging public facilities. Riots, he warned, only harm ordinary citizens, disrupt public services, and cause significant losses to the region.
Regent Rettob also reminded that President Prabowo Subianto has instructed authorities to take firm action against anyone causing chaos. He urged the people of Mimika not to be easily influenced by national issues that are irrelevant to the local context.
“If we fight inside our own house, how will outsiders view us? Mimika is our shared home—let us protect it with tolerance,” he said.
He also encouraged religious leaders, youth leaders, and community groups to spread this message of peace to every village to maintain harmony throughout the region.
“Mimika is known as a harmonious area; we must not allow certain individuals to destroy that image. Peace is our collective responsibility,” Rettob concluded.
