Jayapura – The Chairman of the Regional Leadership Council (DPW) of the United Alliance of Two-Wheel Associations (Garda) Papua, Ali Ridwan Patty, has officially canceled the planned candlelight vigil and demonstration that were scheduled for Sunday, August 30, 2025.
In an official video statement, Ali explained that the decision followed internal investigations and input from various parties. He stressed that the events risked being exploited by irresponsible groups.
“Both actions have been officially canceled. We made this decision after finding indications that our initiative could be misused by certain groups. We do not want our goodwill to be taken advantage of,” Ali said.
He emphasized that Garda Papua does not wish its solidarity agenda—originally intended to show support and sympathy—to cause harm or disrupt public security in Jayapura City or Papua Province.
Ali further underlined Garda Papua’s support for the police, the Jayapura municipal government, and the Papua provincial government in maintaining regional stability.
“All of our planned activities related to the Jakarta issue are hereby canceled. Any future actions claiming to represent Garda Papua are not part of us, and we will not be responsible for them,” he asserted.
Through this decision, Garda Papua hopes that the security situation in Papua will remain safe, stable, and free from exploitation by outside interests.
