Papua – The Chairman of the Papua Regional Headquarters of Laskar Merah Putih (Mada LMP Papua), Jan Cristian Arebo, S.H., M.H., has expressed his strong support for the decisive measures taken by National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, including the order to open fire if there are continued attacks against police families and facilities.
Arebo made this statement following General Listyo’s remarks after the recent anarchic riots that erupted in several regions across Indonesia.
“As the Chairman of Mada LMP Papua, I fully support the actions to be taken by the National Police in handling anarchic riots, especially since casualties have already occurred among both civilians and police officers,” he emphasized.
He further stressed that firm action on the ground must be carried out to prevent the unrest from spreading to other regions, particularly Papua.
“The order to shoot reflects the responsibility of the police in safeguarding public security and order from anarchist disturbances,” Arebo stated.
He also highlighted evidence circulating on social media showing that the demonstrations were no longer purely grassroots movements, but had been infiltrated by certain groups pursuing their own agendas rather than the interests of the people.
In light of this, Arebo urged all communities in Papua to preserve peace and unity.
“Papua is our shared home. Do not let hatred divide us. We must strengthen each other, uphold peace, and spread kindness,” he said.
Concluding his remarks, Arebo expressed concern for the victims of the riots, underscoring that the police are not at fault, and called for Indonesia’s swift recovery.
