Rev. Niko: Do Not Be Provoked, Let Us Be Grateful for the Election Results

Jayapura – Following the announcement of the gubernatorial election results in Papua, church leaders have called on the public to uphold unity and solidarity across the nation. Rev. Niko Mauri, Pastor of the Holy Spirit Works Church, KINGMI Synod in Papua City Classis, urged the people of Papua to remain calm and grateful for the democratic process that has taken place.

According to Rev. Niko, the situation in Papua is currently safe and conducive. He emphasized that the community, especially church members, must stand on the truth and respect the outcome.

“Whatever happens today, and whoever has been elected as leader, it is God’s choice. Let us be thankful for the result, take the positive side, and use it to strengthen our identity as a nation’s children,” Rev. Niko said in Jayapura on Friday (August 29).

He also reminded the public not to be easily provoked by divisive issues. In his view, safeguarding unity is a vital legacy for the younger generation of Papua.

“We must be role models for our children so that they see us as examples. Let us uphold unity to build Papua within the framework of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, from Sabang to Merauke,” he added.

Rev. Niko concluded his message with the hope that all elements of society would continue to preserve peace so that Papua can advance in unity and national solidarity.
