Jakarta — The Supreme Leader of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU), KH Miftachul Akhyar, has called on the public to uphold unity and order amid ongoing social tensions.
He stressed that security forces and officers on the ground should remain patient and prioritize dialogue when handling demonstrations.
“We urge law enforcement to exercise restraint and patience to prevent clashes that could harm all parties,” said Miftachul, as quoted by Antara on Friday (August 29, 2025).
The statement came in response to the death of Affan Kurniawan, a motorcycle taxi driver who was fatally struck by a police tactical vehicle during a protest in Jakarta.
Expressing his deep condolences to the victim’s family, the PBNU leader also urged the public not to be provoked by the incident and to continue fostering peace and solidarity.
