MRP Urges Papuans to Remain Calm, Await Constitutional Court’s Decision on Re-vote

Jayapura – The First Deputy Chairperson of the Papuan People’s Assembly (MRP), Rev. Robert Horik, called on the people of Papua to remain calm, patient, and not be swayed by misleading information while awaiting the official decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) regarding the Papua gubernatorial election re-vote (PSU).

As a representative body of Indigenous Papuans mandated by the Special Autonomy Law, the MRP continues to carry out its duties and functions, including verifying the authenticity of gubernatorial and vice-gubernatorial candidates through its Special Election Committee (Pansus Pilkada).

Horik explained that from the early stages of the election process up to the re-vote, the MRP has consistently monitored verification, documentation, and candidate determination before forwarding the results to the KPU as the official election organizer. He emphasized that disputes and challenges in a democratic process are normal, as supervisory bodies such as Bawaslu have the authority to recommend a re-vote if violations are found.

“Anyone who feels disadvantaged has the right to pursue legal action through the Constitutional Court. Let us respect this entire process, and refrain from spreading slander or provocation. Papua must remain peaceful,” he stressed in Jayapura on Tuesday (Aug 26).

He added that the MRP has extended the mandate of the Special Election Committee to oversee the process until all legal proceedings at the Constitutional Court are completed. Horik also expressed appreciation for the support of community leaders, religious leaders, youth, and women, all of whom have joined in urging Papuans to remain patient, await the Court’s official ruling, and safeguard unity.
