Jayapura – The Indonesian Islamic Propagation Institute (LDII) Papua Province has urged all elements of society to maintain peace and respect the democratic process of the gubernatorial election re-vote (PSU) in Papua. The public is called upon not to be provoked by issues that could trigger division.
Chairman of LDII Papua Regional Leadership Council (DPW), H. Sugiyono, SE., M.Si, emphasized that all parties must comply with and respect the decision of the General Elections Commission (KPU) as the official election authority.
“Do not play with fire by spreading provocations, hate speech, or intolerant narratives. Such actions will only divide our unity and endanger Papua,” Sugiyono firmly stated.
He reminded the public that the ongoing dispute over the PSU results currently being handled by the Constitutional Court should be approached with a cool head. He also called on citizens to avoid being easily provoked and to use social media wisely.
“Stop sharing content that attacks supporters of different sides. Social media must be used to build, not to divide. This is a legitimate democratic process and must be respected,” he said.
According to Sugiyono, peace and stability are essential for the community to carry out daily activities. Security, he stressed, is the foundation for sustaining social and economic life.
“If Papua is safe, people can work properly, children can go to school, and the economy can run smoothly. But if the situation becomes unstable, everything will be disrupted,” he said seriously.
He concluded by urging Papuans to remain patient as the legal process of the PSU unfolds, while continuing to uphold harmony and mutual respect.
“Whatever the result may be, let us accept it with an open heart. Do not sacrifice Papua’s peace for the sake of political differences,” Sugiyono closed.
