Jayapura – The Repeat Gubernatorial Election (PSU) in Papua has concluded, yet debates continue to echo among the public. Responding to this, Yan Hambur of the Papua Development Forum (YPMD Irja), a partner of the Papua NGO Cooperation Forum (Foker), underscored the importance of closing the door to division and restoring unity for Papua’s future.
“The PSU is over. There is no reason for us to keep fighting. Let us safeguard security, peace, and togetherness in the land of Papua,” Yan stressed.
He emphasized that the community’s energy should not be wasted on bringing each other down. Differences in political choice should end once the democratic process is complete.
“We must stop dwelling on who won and who lost. It brings no benefit to our lives—only hostility among Papuans,” he said.
For Yan, what Papua truly needs now is collective solidarity in building the region. Without unity, development will stall, economic growth will falter, and the people themselves will suffer the consequences.
“Therefore, let us put an end to all disputes and return to our respective roles. Only then can Papua continue to advance, and the well-being of its people be realized,” he concluded.
