Papua – An earthquake with a magnitude (M) of 4.0 struck Keerom, Papua, in the early hours of Thursday (August 28, 2025). The quake’s epicenter was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers.
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), through its official X account, reported that the tremor occurred at 03:14 AM Western Indonesia Time (WIB), located about 45 kilometers northeast of Keerom.
BMKG stated that the earthquake’s coordinates were at 3.09 degrees South Latitude and 141.08 degrees East Longitude. The agency also emphasized that this initial information is subject to change as more complete data becomes available.
“This information prioritizes speed, therefore the data processing results may be adjusted as further information is obtained,” BMKG said in its official statement.
