Jayapura, August 25, 2025– Following the Papua gubernatorial election re-vote (PSU), calls for peace and unity continue to resonate. The Secretary General of the Kingmi Papua Synod, Rev. Yones Wenda, has urged all Papuans to remain calm, stand united, and support the official decision of the General Election Commission (KPU), which has declared the MARI-YO ticket as the winner.
In his statement, Rev. Wenda emphasized the importance of acceptance and respect toward the electoral commission’s decision as a sign of democratic maturity.
“What has been decided by the KPU must be supported together. The KPU has declared MARI-YO as the winner. Let us accept this wholeheartedly, support it, and safeguard peace in Papua,” he said.
He further underlined the legal foundation behind the legitimacy of the result, referring to the Constitutional Court (MK) Ruling No. 03/PHPU.PRES-XXIII/2025 dated February 24, 2025, which stipulates that re-votes must be concluded within 180 days, and their results need only be announced by the KPU without further submission to the Court.
“This means the KPU’s decision on MARI-YO’s victory is valid, final, and binding. I believe the Constitutional Court will stand by its ruling, which serves as a firm legal basis,” Rev. Wenda added.
The Synod’s appeal serves as a vital reminder for citizens to move away from disputes over election outcomes. Rev. Wenda stressed that what is most needed now is reconciliation, unity, and a shared commitment to maintain stability across Papua.
“There should be no more division over political choices. The election is over, and now it is time to focus on building Papua with a peaceful heart. Let us rally behind the leaders chosen through this democratic process,” he urged.
The Kingmi Papua Synod’s call for peace is expected to ease post-election tensions while strengthening the spirit of brotherhood in the land of Papua. With mutual respect and unity, Papua is hoped to move forward in development, harmony, and the prosperity of its people.
