Papuan Academic Marianus Yaung Urges Public to Safeguard Security and Resist Provocation

Jayapura – Papuan academic Marianus Yaung has called on the people of Papua to consistently safeguard public security and order (Kamtibmas) amid the ongoing social and political dynamics in the region.

In his statement, Yaung underlined the vital role of society in fostering a safe, peaceful, and harmonious atmosphere.

“The people of Papua must remain calm, wise, and not easily swayed by SARA-related issues or hoaxes that could divide our unity,” he said, referring to issues of ethnicity, religion, race, and intergroup relations.

According to him, the spread of misinformation and provocations based on identity politics has the potential to disrupt stability in the Land of Cenderawasih. He urged citizens to always verify the accuracy of information before sharing it with others.

“We must not become part of spreading falsehoods that harm many. Let us maintain peace and security in Papua, because it is our shared responsibility,” he added.

Yaung also encouraged community leaders, traditional figures, youth, and all elements of society to take an active role in providing positive guidance and educating their surroundings so that people are not easily provoked.
