Jayapura – The Chairman of the Papua Branch Coordinating Board of the Indonesian Islamic Student Movement (PKC PMII), Mahfud, has called on the public to remain calm and not be provoked by a viral post from Stev Mara that touched on religious sensitivities.
In his statement, Mahfud stressed the importance of safeguarding peace and unity in Papua, noting that sensitive issues are often exploited by certain groups to divide society.
“Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh, shalom, peace be upon us all. I urge the public not to be provoked by the viral posting from Stev Mara related to religious issues,” Mahfud said in Jayapura on Sunday (August 24, 2025).
Mahfud emphasized that maintaining security and harmony in Papua is not only the duty of security forces but also a shared responsibility of all citizens.
“We hope the public will continue to coordinate and work together with the TNI and Polri to safeguard peace, harmony, and unity in Papua,” he added.
The Papua PMII chapter underscored that interfaith unity and harmony are vital foundations for regional stability. The organization urged the public to be more discerning in responding to information circulating on social media and to avoid falling victim to provocative narratives.
