Jayapura – The Cipayung Plus Papua student forum has issued a five-point statement on maintaining public order and security (Kamtibmas) following the gubernatorial re-vote (PSU) in Papua on August 6, 2025.
The statement was delivered in a press release by Mahfud, Chair of the Papua Regional Board of the Indonesian Islamic Students Movement (DPW PMII), on Monday (Aug. 25, 2025). He stressed the importance of participation from all stakeholders—citizens, security forces, and government—in keeping Papua safe and stable.
The Five Key Points of the Cipayung Plus Papua Appeal:
- Urging all Papuans to respect, follow, and await the Constitutional Court’s (MK) decision as the legitimate authority on the PSU results.
- Calling on the Papua Regional Police (Polda Papua) to take firm action against those spreading hate speech and provocations on social media in accordance with the law.
- Promoting dialogue and discussion as a way to honor customary values and community-based law in Papua.
- Encouraging mutual respect for differences in belief while rejecting provocations, hate speech, and intolerance that could divide the nation.
- Advising the public to use social media responsibly and avoid sharing hoaxes or divisive content.
Lalius Kabak, Chair of the Jayapura branch of the Indonesian Christian Student Movement (GMKI), echoed the message, urging residents across nine districts and municipalities in Papua to take the five points seriously. He was joined by Mahfud and Carly Legefa, Chair of the Papua Regional Board of the Islamic Students Association (Badko HMI).
“We call on all Papuans to respect the legal process of the re-vote. To safeguard unity, solidarity, and harmony among communities, let us treat this appeal as a shared responsibility,” Lalius Kabak said.
The statement reflects the student organizations’ commitment to preserving social and political stability in Papua and preventing conflict that could undermine peace and security in the region.
