Jayapura – Sentani tribal leader, Yanto Eluay, voiced his support for the call made by Jayapura Police Chief, AKBP Umar Nasatekay, S.I.K, urging the public to maintain peace and not be swayed by false information or hoaxes, especially in the aftermath of the Repeat Voting (PSU) and ahead of the Papua Provincial Election Commission’s official announcement of results.
In his statement, Eluay praised the ongoing efforts of the police in safeguarding stability. He emphasized that indigenous communities play a vital role in maintaining security, particularly by refraining from spreading unverified news.
“Hoaxes only divide us. People must be wise in using social media. We must preserve Papua as a land of peace,” Eluay said.
Police Chief Umar previously thanked local residents for their cooperation in keeping the situation calm throughout the PSU process. He stressed that safety is not solely the responsibility of security forces but is built through collective effort from all sectors of society.
The joint appeal serves as a reminder that the digital space should not become a platform for provocation. Both indigenous leaders and law enforcement agree that responsible use of social media is key to preserving unity and stability in Papua.
