Jayapura – As Indonesia marks its 80th year of independence, the people of Papua are being urged to strengthen the call for peace and harmony in society. The message came from Soleman Demetouw, a community leader from Tabi, who emphasized that Papua should serve as a barometer of peace for other regions.
“At this milestone of 80 years of independence, it is our duty to amplify peace across the nation,” Soleman said in Jayapura.
He stressed that divisive issues must be addressed with unity. According to him, all elements of the nation—including traditional leaders, community figures, and government institutions—must work hand in hand to safeguard security and peace. Such commitment, he added, will bring tangible welfare to the people.
With deep concern, Soleman reminded the public to remain wise in responding to challenges in Papua. He highlighted the importance of verifying information and avoiding calls or narratives that lack clear truth.
His message also extended to the government, urging authorities to prioritize practical and educational programs that directly benefit citizens.
“It should not only be about repeated appeals, but about real programs that people can truly experience. In this way, misleading opinions will not easily influence communities that are already focused on government programs proven to improve welfare,” he noted.
Closing his remarks, Soleman called on all parties to foster synergy in building brotherhood and harmony.
“Let us walk in unison toward a peaceful and prosperous Papua,” he concluded.
