Jayapura – The Jayapura Police Chief, AKBP Umar Nasatekay, S.I.K, expressed his appreciation to the people of Jayapura Regency for maintaining security and stability throughout the Re-voting (PSU) process until the announcement of results by the Papua Provincial General Elections Commission (KPU).
The statement was delivered during a coffee morning with members of the press at Café Dari Hati, Sentani District, on Friday (Aug 23).
“From the implementation of the PSU, the vote counting, up to the official results announcement by the Provincial KPU, everything went smoothly. I thank the people of Jayapura Regency for keeping the situation safe and conducive,” said Umar.
He emphasized that citizens are expected to respect the final decision of the KPU, reminding that the elected governor will be a leader for all and should be accepted wisely.
“Whatever the outcome, let us accept it wholeheartedly. The elected governor is our leader, part of God’s will. Do not be easily provoked by rumors or hoaxes. Follow the procedures and trust the established mechanisms,” he stressed.
On the same occasion, Umar also reminded residents to be more discerning when responding to information circulating on social media. He noted that the digital space is often filled with unverified information that could spark division.
“Social media is often flooded with news that is not necessarily valid. Let us wait for the official decision and avoid creating or spreading false information,” he said firmly.
With this call, the Jayapura Police Chief hopes security and order in Jayapura Regency will remain intact until the completion of all stages of the Papua provincial re-election process.
