Three Suspects in the Wamena Driver Murder Case Handed Over to the Prosecutor’s Office, Task Force Ops Peace Cartenz Reaffirms Continued Law Enforcement

Jayawijaya, Papua — Three suspects involved in the brutal murder of a public transportation driver named Muktar Layuk, which occurred on November 5, 2024, have been officially handed over to the Jayawijaya District Prosecutor’s Office by the Satgas Ops Peace Cartenz on Friday, August 22, 2025. The handover of the suspects and evidence (Stage II) was carried out after all case files were declared complete (P-21) by the public prosecutor.

The handover began with suspect Anus Asso, who arrived at Wamena Airport at 09:00 WIT, then was taken to the Jayawijaya District Prosecutor’s Office along with the evidence. Next, at 10:55 WIT, the team handed over suspects Aske Mabel and the evidence. The final handover was of Nikson Matuan alias Okoni Siep at 11:25 WIT at Wamena Class IIB Penitentiary, as the suspect was already in detention for another case.

Brigadier General Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., Head of Operation Peace Cartenz, accompanied by Deputy Head of Operation Damai Cartenz, Kombes Pol. Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., emphasized that authorities will continue to investigate and firmly crack down on groups involved in acts of violence that disturb public order and threaten security in Papua.

“We will not tolerate acts of violence that cause loss of life. Law enforcement will be carried out firmly and proportionally against any perpetrators of violence that oppose the law and the ideology of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia,” Brigadier General Faizal Ramadhani stated after the handover ceremony.

Meanwhile, Public Relations Task Force Officer of Ops Damai Cartenz, Kombes Pol. Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., said that the Police will continue to uphold the law and oversee cases, especially in Papua.

“This is one of the proofs that the Police remain committed to overseeing this case until the suspects receive appropriate punishment in court. Security forces will enforce the law strictly and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations,” he added.

This suspect handover event is part of the security forces’ commitment to providing a sense of safety for the community and ensuring that every criminal act is prosecuted fairly and transparently.
