The Handover of the Suspect in the Murder Case in Wamena Becomes Proof of the Seriousness of the Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz in Maintaining Justice in Papua*

Jayawijaya, Papua – The efforts of the security forces in maintaining justice in Papua are again proven through the handover of three suspects in the murder case of public transport driver, Muktar Layuk, to the Jayawijaya District Attorney’s Office on Friday (8/22/2025). This step becomes a real manifestation of the state’s commitment in providing a sense of security while ensuring that the legal process runs to the court.

The three suspects, namely Aske Mabel, Anus Assa and Nikson Matuan alias Okoni Siep, were handed over after their case files were declared complete (P-21) by the public prosecutor. The handover was carried out gradually by the Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz. Anus Asso was first handed over with evidence through Wamena Airport at 09.00 WIT, followed by Aske Mabel at 10.55 WIT. Meanwhile, Nikson Matuan was handed over to Wamena’s Class IIB Prison at 11.25 WIT because he was undergoing detention in another case.

Head of Operation Peace Cartenz, Brigadier General Police Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., accompanied by Deputy Head Operations Peace Cartenz Chief Commissioner of Police Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., emphasized that the security forces will not stop at the arrest stage, but will continue to escort until every perpetrator receives a fair sentence on the green table.

“We will not tolerate violent actions that cause casualties. Law enforcement will be carried out firmly, measured, and transparently against anyone who threatens public safety and contradicts the ideology of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia,” said Brigadier General Faizal after the event.

Meanwhile, Head of Public Relations Operation Peace Cartenz, Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., added that escorting this case until the trial stage is a form of moral responsibility of the National Police to the Papuan people and the success of handling this case shows the synergy between the security apparatus and the prosecutor’s office in ensuring that the law is enforced indiscriminately.

“The handover of this suspect is a real proof that the National Police did not stop in the process of investigation or arrest. We make sure that the perpetrators will face a fair and transparent legal process until they receive a fair sentence in court,” he said.

The people of Wamena and Papua in general are expected to increasingly believe that the law remains the main way to solve every criminal act. This law enforcement also affirms the presence of the country to protect every citizen and create a safer, more peaceful, and just Papua.
