Jayapura – The Papua Provincial Government appealed to the entire community to maintain peace after the implementation of the Re-Voting (PSU) for the Papua Governor Election. Acting (Pj) Governor of Papua, Agus Fatoni, emphasized that the democratic process must be followed by a mature attitude, open-mindedness, and acceptance of results according to applicable laws.
In his statement, Agus explained that after the plenary to determine the PSU results by the Papuan KPU, the next stage will depend on the legal process at the Constitutional Court (MK). The lawsuit room, he said, is available for parties who object to the results of PSU, and the MK’s decision will be final and binding.
“Democracy provides room for legal settlement. If there is a party who is not satisfied with the results of the PSU, then the complaint mechanism to the Constitutional Court is the right way. The decision of the Constitutional Court must be respected by all parties,” said Agus Fatoni.
He added that the local government together with the security apparatus is committed to maintaining a conducive climate so that Papua remains safe, peaceful, tolerant, and harmonious. According to him, security is not only the responsibility of the apparatus, but also requires an active role of the community.
“The security of this area is our joint responsibility, both the government, security forces, and the community. Let’s strengthen each other, maintain brotherhood, and avoid actions that can divide unity,” he said.
Agus also reminded all parties to refrain from provocative actions or the spread of misleading information, because it can trigger tension in the community. He hopes that the momentum of PSU can be used as an important lesson to strengthen democracy and unity in Papua.
“Let’s continue to maintain a conducive climate, a safe, peaceful, tolerant, and harmonious atmosphere in Papua that we love together. That way, democracy runs healthily, and the development of Papua can continue,” he added.
The government emphasized that a safe and peaceful Papua is the key to successful development and public welfare. Therefore, all elements of the nation are urged to participate in maintaining stability for the sake of a better future of Papua.
